Resources
Library, Research, and Lectures
The fellows of the Van Raalte Institute conduct their research and publish original
works from the beautiful Theil-Nyenhuis Research Center on the Hope College campus.
Research fellows collaborate with the Hope College Archives and Special Collections and are fortunate to be able to draw upon materials from its Dutch American Heritage Collection.
Library
Within the Theil-Nyenhuis Research Center is the Elton J. Bruins Memorial Library, which includes over 1,700 books and pamphlets. The library is open to the public either through an appointment or simply by stopping, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Research
The Van Raalte Institute is dedicated to publishing and sharing its documents and research widely and as freely as possible. Dozens of books have been published through Van Raalte Press with more in process.
The Institute partners with a variety of organizations to promote and support research into Dutch-American immigrant history, not constrained to but especially focused on West Michigan.
The Institute welcomes independent researchers. Please send an email to vanraalte@hope.edu to enquire about possibilities.
